The Lehigh Valley and the music world lost a polka legend yesterday. 92-year-old Walt Groller passed away Monday evening. He was from Whitehall Township.

Born to Austrian immigrants, he was known as one of the most prominent polka players in the world, according to WFZM News. He learned to play the accordion at age 4 and by age 12, he was performing professionally.

He was signed by Stella Records and went on to make seven albums and several 45s before starting his own label Chalet Record. He also hosted a weekly television show, which aired Fridays on, WFMZ-TV.

He earned a Grammy nomination and was inducted into Polka Hall of Fame in 1986.

Groller also served in the Army and was Korean War vet.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones as well as all those that knew him and loved his music.
