Cindy Olszewski is happy to be serving as secretary for the International Polka Association. She fondly recalls her early years when her parents had polka music playing on the radio planting the seed for her appreciation of the music. When she was a high school senior, her brothers, Bernie and Randy Koslosky, were starting a band and needed a bassist. They bought a bass guitar and arranged for Cindy to take lessons so she could round out the group. She willingly admits that she was the weak link in the group and loved watching her brothers thrive when she decided to leave the band. Fortunately, during her time with the band, a deep love of polka music was truly formed.
Cindy’s year as Miss USPA (1984-85) was a very special time. Attending dances and festivals and making life-long friends through polka music were key aspects of her early adult years. She was privileged to host her own radio show – Polka Sunrise – for several years during the 1980’s.
Cindy is a retired high school counselor but continues to work part-time at a Pittsburgh university. She and her husband, Marty, are now enjoying their time as empty nesters as their sons, Nathan and his new wife, Mikayla, and Nicholas are establishing themselves in their careers. Keeping Cindy and Marty company are their two precious Boston Terriers, Piper and Penny.
