Christy Krawisz’s long and dedicated history with the International Polka Association continues into a new chapter. Although “she’s back,” the truth is she never really left. In September 2026, Christy was elected IPA Treasurer, bringing decades of experience, leadership, and passion for polka music into her newest role.
Christy is no stranger to the IPA. Prior to her election as Treasurer, she served as Advisor, appointed by current IPA President Chris Bogdon, and previously held the role of Ex‑Officio following her six‑year term as IPA President, which concluded in 2024.
Her involvement stretches back even further.
- In 2019, Christy became only the fourth female President in the IPA’s 51‑year history, elected during the Labor Day weekend convention at the Millennium Hotel in Buffalo, NY.
- She was appointed to the IPA Executive Board in 2014, fulfilling the office of 1st Vice President when Rick Rzeszutko was elevated to President.
- Her earliest IPA leadership roles began in 1993, when she produced the IPA Newsletter and served as Financial Secretary, followed by a term on the Executive Board from 1993–1997.
- In 2010, she returned to the board, continuing her long-standing commitment to the organization, as Financial Secretary.
In 2018, Christy proudly chaired the 50th IPA Festival and Convention Celebration, as well as the 50th Anniversary Dinner Dance in Chicago. Under her leadership, and with the help of a talented committee of volunteers, the IPA presented two elegant, memorable events honoring five decades of polka music and community.
Christy is the daughter of IPA Hall of Famer John Furmaniak Sr. and Cheryl Furmaniak, former IPA Secretary, and longtime chairwoman of the calendar raffle. Polka music surrounded her from childhood: her father’s band, The Dial‑A‑Tones, was popular during her youth, and she attended countless Chicagoland polka events. She now laughs at how she didn’t appreciate the music as much then as she does today — especially considering her father also performed with Marion Lush’s White Eagles and Stas Bulanda’s APB.
In 2025, Christy proudly celebrated her husband John Krawisz — past IPA Director — as he was inducted into the International Polka Association Hall of Fame. She made sure his induction weekend was unforgettable, creating custom buttons and handing out candy bars, popcorn, and gum featuring his photo to mark the occasion. Christy and John live in Plainfield, IL, where they raised their two daughters, Katie and Hayley. She is extremely proud of the strong, talented young women they have become.
Christy enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and extended family. She has always been active in local fundraisers and community causes, generously lending her talents wherever needed. Her experience, both within the IPA and beyond, continues to fuel her mission to preserve the music she loves.
She remains deeply grateful for the friendships she has formed through polka music and is committed to ensuring that future generations can experience the joy, fun, and happiness that polkas bring.
Christy and the IPA Board plan to continue promoting polka music with positivity, energy, and dedication, keeping the tradition alive so others can discover and enjoy the vibrant culture the IPA represents.
