Pulaski gets ready for Casimir Pulaski Days, featuring the “Largest Pie Auction in US History”

 

Excitement is rising in the small community of Pulaski, Wisconsin. Pulaski residents, schools, organizations and businesses are preparing for one of the largest themed initiatives of the year, “Casimir Pulaski Days”. A week of special events, contests, sales, live polka music, store promotions, historic tours, food and refreshments, dances, and even a polka mass are being coordinated by Promote Pulaski, Inc. All in honor of Count Casimir Pulaski, for whom this community was named after. A revolutionary war hero, Casimir Pulaski will be honored and celebrated during  “Casimir Pulaski Days”, March 4 -11 in Pulaski.  Promote Pulaski, Inc., the organization behind the event, is extending an invitation to all communities, and village residents to make an special effort to visit Pulaski, and take part in the week long event.  

 

To begin the celebration, on Sunday, March 4, after mass at Assumption BVM Catholic Church, a Casimir Birthday Celebration Social will be held in the basement of the church at St. Francis Hall. It will be a potluck social, with birthday cake in honor of Casimir’s Birthday, and anyone who attends will also enjoy polka music provided by local musicians. As an added feature to kick-start the week long celebration, church tours will be provided. Assumption BVM Catholic Church is one of the largest known rural churches in America, featuring two 135 foot-tall Spanish-style towers, including 50-foot ceilings showcasing more that 40 Italian-made stained glass windows. The church will also host a Polka Mass on Sunday March, 11th to end the celebration. Music will be provided by a local family of musicians, the Maroszek Brothers.

 

Throughout the week, businesses, community organizations, churches, schools, area restaurants will be celebrating as well with special promotions, events and tours. Over 300 Pulaski four grade students will have the opportunity to learn about Casimir Pulaski in a live presentation by Rock Mannigel, and tour the Pulaski Museum. In addition, the entire school district will be eating Pierogi’s for lunch on Thursday, March 8th, “Spirit Day” in Pulaski.

 

One event in particular is the “Where’s Casimir” is a fun photo sharing promotion. Watch for a life-size Casimir Pulaski that will be located at various businesses to help promote Casimir Pulaski Days prior to the event. Take your photo with Casimir and share on social media for your chance to win tickets to the “Big Casimir Dance & Pie Auction Event” on Saturday, March 10th at the historic Zielinski’s Ballroom. Tri-City Drive, a Polish Style Band from Chicago, Illinois will be performing for the Big Casimir Dance. On Friday night, March 9th, local bands and musicians will also performing at area taverns. This year, the Pulaski Area Historical Society is promoting Casimir Pulaski Days with “The Largest Pie Auction in US History” on Saturday, March 10th at Zielinski’s Ballroom. The live pie auction is scheduled to take place at 3:00 p.m., just prior to the polka dance.
